Essay on “Student indiscipline In English

Student indiscipline is a burning problem in our country today, and it only seems to be getting worse as the years go by. At one level, there is classroom indiscipline. Generally, new and inexperienced teachers are troubled and harassed; the older, experienced teachers are normally able to keep order.

Why do we see so much of this type of indiscipline today, in Junior and Degree colleges? The first reason is that students get the taste of freedom for the first time. They have had to adhere to strict rules while in school; now they feel free.

They are unable to make proper use of this freedom. Some students join colleges just to have some fun, with no intention of studying. These students influence the newer ones.In colleges, there are at least 100 to 125 students per class.

It is impossible for the teachers to pay individual attention to all students, and therefore they cannot have personal contact with students. Students make a noise and disturb the class, skip classes whenever they wish, and do not complete the projects assigned to them.

At another level, student indiscipline manifests itself in the form of strikes and demonstrations which sometimes turn violent. Mass copying during examinations, boycott of exams and manhandling of teachers are other forms of indiscipline.

Sometimes, students feel that they have genuine reasons for their behaviour. Many colleges charge high fees, but do not give proper facilities. The teaching may not be good, or there may not be adequate number of teachers. In certain colleges there are malpractices. All these factors tend to make the students frustrated.

Because of the difficulty of getting admission in the colleges of their choice and for the courses they want to take up, students feel frustrated. Extent of unemployment in the country makes the students feel insecure about their future.

They are therefore discontented. The political parties take advantage of their discontent and encourage indiscipline. How can this problem be solved? First of all, politicians should leave students alone. Parents should exercise greater control over their children.

They should guide them properly. Moral values should be imparted at home. Educationists should try and solve the genuine problems that students face. Arrangements should be made for smaller classes, better teaching, and suitable exam systems.

Participation in sports should be encouraged. The students of today are the citizens of tomorrow, and responsible adults should take all the proper steps necessary to see that these students are well looked after and their problems dealt with. If this is done, there will be no more problems of indiscipline in our college campuses.
