Essay on “A Wedding Party You Recently Attended”

Prakash is my cousin brother. He has recently passed his C.A. examination. He married last month. It being the first auspicious occasion at my uncle's house, my entire family joined the occasion

When our bus arrived at Surat it was nearing nine morning. The wind was cool and refreshing. We kept our bags in the adjoining flat of the marriage hall. The bride's relatives greeted us with beaming smile and then began to serve tea and light refreshments.

Our women were singing auspicious songs. The bride's relatives and neighbours had come to see the bridegroom. To most of them the bridegroom was something fine and rare and sterling. The wedding ceremony was to begin at twelve noon and so at about 10-30 a.m. we were led for the buffet, we enjoyed the meal and the hospitality of our host.

At the appointed time, the Brahmins began to chant the mantras. The hall was full of sweet fragrance. The bride came and sat beside the bridegroom. She is of normal stature and slim of body. She is incredibly beautiful.

It is as if there is nothing comparable to her. Both of them had utter joy on their faces. The ceremony was over. The couple went to their elders, and bowed low before each one of them to seek their blessings.

Around seven p.m. we were in the bus for our return journey. The bride touched the feet of her parents and came into the bus. Some people came in the bus to farewell the bride. In the end the mother and the father arrived.

The father could not speak and simply stood near his daughter. The mother had tears in her eyes. She put her hand on the head of her daughter and stood still as if she was a framed picture. How to express extreme mental suffering !

Our expression has limitations. Words about such agony appear inadequate. There was dead silence in the bus for a while. I was sitting very near to them and was watching the panorama.

After the journey of three hours the bus stopped for the short break. We were a bit tired and so most of us slept or dozed after our bus resumed the journey. When the bus arrived and halted before the building of my uncle, I quietly came out from it.

DIFFICULT WORDS

auspicious-of good omen, buffet-a meal consisting of several dishes set out from which guests serve themselves, stature-the height of a human body, farewell-goodbye, panorama-a continuous passing scene, sterling-genuine.
