Essay on Republic Day In English

India won its independence from the British rule on 15th August, 1947 and became a Republic on 26th January, 1950. The new Constitution took effect from this day on. This day signifies independence from any form of bondage and is celebrated with great merry-making, pomp and show, for it is a memorable occasion indeed.


The day is declared a public holiday all over India. To honour it, a flag hoisting ceremony is carried out in the early hours of the morning. People from all walks of life, from different states gather to witness this solemn scene. The chief guest proceeds to give a speech after the flag hoisting ceremony.


This hour reminds each of us of those brave, dauntless soldiers who gave up their lives for the freedom we enjoy today, and take so much for granted. The National Anthem is sung as everyone stands at attention as a mark of respect.


When night falls, the breath-taking lights of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is sight to see. This is normally proceeded with a firework display. This day, reminds every Indian to stand united, regardless of colour, creed, riches, poverty, to be bound in ties of brotherhood and be proud of our heritage and integrity.
