A Visit To A Museum Essay |

During the Diwali vacation, my friend Vikas and I decided to visit the city museum. We had earlier visited it once when we were in primary school, but then we were too young to understand many of the things on display there.

In those days, the visit had been in the nature of a pleasure trip. Now, as college going students, we thought of visiting it again, for now we would really understand and appreciate what we would see there.

We reached the museum at twelve noon, and passed four hours going through various sections. The museum is housed in a spacious three-storeyed building surrounded by a large and beautiful garden. It is impossible for anyone to see the various sections of the museum thoroughly in a few hours in a single day.

So we went round the whole museum hurriedly to acquaint ourselves with all the sections and then decide which sections should be seen fully and thoroughly. On the ground floor there were separate sections to display stuffed animals and birds, and skeletons made of plaster of Paris of extinct animals and birds.

There were also weapons of warfare, armours and ancient coins, and important historical manuscripts. Various rooms on the first floor provided valuable information about modern India in the form of statues, specimens, maps, pictures and models.

From these, one could get a great deal of information about India-its states, mountains, rivers, people, their dresses, languages, customs, festivals, occupations, religions, industrial progress and about the great men of India.

The second floor was devoted to the progress of man throughout the world. It contained statues, charts and maps, and gave one an idea about the progress of great nations of the world in trade and industry. The top floor was all about art and craft. There were paintings, sculptures, pottery and glassware, and a vast variety of musical instruments along with information about the artists and their work.

After getting a general idea about the various sections in about two hours, we spent the remaining two hours on the first floor, and got valuable information about India. We needed this for a project which we had to complete.

The visit added much to our knowledge and made us realise how much wealth a museum has, which we can utilise for our own betterment. It also made us realise that there is so much knowledge in the world, and how little we really know!

A Visit To A Museum Essay |

A museum is a place, where the collections of certain special things are preserved and are kept for everyone to see. There are many kinds of museums such as, historical museums, scientific museums, statue museums etc.

They are very important as they preserve important things and allow us to see them. They are a source of knowledge and also good places to spend time. This year on children's day, our school had arranged a visit to a museum for all of us, we all were very excited about the visit.

Our teachers had told us to collect information about the lives of our freedom fighters. One day before the visit our class teacher told us many things about our freedom fighters. She also told us to follow the rules of the museum.

The next day everyone was ready to visit the museum. Our school buses took us to the National Museum. It was a huge building. Armed guards were guarding the gate. As soon as we entered inside there was a huge board on the wall describing the great warriors of India.

We followed our class teacher to a room, where there was a huge photograph of Mahatma Gandhi talking to someone, under it there was a caption describing the photograph. There were many articles, used by Gandiji, some of his letters were displayed.

I tried reading one of them written to Pt. Nehru, but couldn't complete it as we had to move ahead. Certain facts about Gandhiji's life were also displayed on a large board. Our teacher asked us to write some of them.

Then we entered the next room housing the things used by Pt. Nehru. Our teacher explained us a few facts. We asked our teacher a few questions and we moved on. The room, where the articles of Bhagat Singh and his comrades were kept, was the most inspiring one, and I had goose bumps.

The visit concluded soon after we visited a few more rooms. Delicate articles like letters, and clothes etc. were preserved in a good manner. We got a lot of information as well as inspiration. From that day onwards, I decided to join the armed forces to serve my country.
