The Role of Students in Free India essay english

The students of today are the citizens of tomorrow. Hence the future of the country depends on the values instilled in its students, and the responsibility they feel towards their country. When India was under the British rule, Gandhiji asked the youth of those days to come out of their shells, and help the poor and illiterate people. Today, more than 50 years after

Independence, India is still a poor country; there are still plenty of poor and illiterate people. There is a lot students can do to help these unfortunate people. But how can students help in solving problems? What role can they play today in free India?

Students must, first of all, be aware of the problems our country faces. We have problems like overpopulation, unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, superstitions, communal disharmony, corruption, and bad hygiene.

Students have a lot of energy and free time. There are many things that students can do if they utilise their time and energy well. “Charity begins at home'; a student can help the people in his or her own neighbourhood.

Students can help in literacy programmes, tree plantation drives, and blood donation camps. They can give free tuitions to poor children in the nearby areas. But most of all, they can help in improving the cleanliness of the locality in which they live. They can also take part in social service camps organized by schools and colleges, and go to the rural areas to help.

Students can do a lot; what is needed is the will and the interest to do it. There is no point in blaming the government for all our ills. We have to help ourselves. And last, but not least, students can help the country by being good, humane and honest students.

They should take their studies seriously, and look after their health. Whatever duties they have, must be well done. Once a sincere beginning is made, things will be easier. Society can then hope for a better and brighter future. Thus, students will be instrumental in leading independent India to a happy and prosperous future.
